Shellfish And Sancerre...sinfully salacious! For our first night in Bordeaux, we had to go with Morgan's recommendation of oysters. Sylvain directed us to Le Plana, only a quick 5-minute walk...
The oysters tasted like they were JUST plucked from the sea and the snails were as tender as they were tasty...this platter was rounded off with plump prawns and delicious dipping sauces.
The refreshing Sancerre with notes of white flowers, honeyed melons and orange rind was intense, precise, and fresh. This medium bodied wine was layered with fruit and a touch of minerality and had a crisp clean finish, pairing perfectly with our bounty from the sea.
Sancerre is the most recognizable appellation for French Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley. Richly textured with ripe aromas, acidity, and flinty flavors, Sancerre can cost $10 to about $60...the difference being the complexity of flavor. The areas of Chavignol, Bué and Ménétréol are known to produce excellent Sancerre wines, so keep those names in mind!
